FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BETHESDA, MD, July 28, 2026 — Family Office Networks (FON), one of the world’s leading communities serving family offices and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, today announced the appointment of Matt Sherman as Sports Editor for FON Media.
In this role, Sherman will provide analysis and commentary on one of the fastest-growing and most globalized sectors of the modern investment landscape. His work will focus on sports, technology, and media — including team and league ownership, the expansion of private capital into professional sports, athlete investing, sports technology, media rights, and the forces reshaping the business, financing, and economics of the global sports ecosystem.
Rather than reporting on sports from the outside, Sherman brings more than fifteen years of experience building strategies, structuring deals, advising institutions, and investing across the sports value chain. His perspective combines the vantage points of an operator, dealmaker, and investor, providing Family Office Networks readers with practical insight into one of the world’s most dynamic and rapidly institutionalizing industries.
Sherman currently serves as Founder and Managing Partner of TFO Sports, an investment and advisory firm targeting the global sports, technology, and media ecosystem. There he is spearheading a $100 million fund with proprietary international deal flow, leading relationships with global single- and multi-family offices, funds of funds, professional athletes, and corporate and corporate-venture institutions.
Before founding TFO Sports, Sherman served as Senior Director of Growth Strategy for the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), where he led strategy and growth for the organization representing the 450+ NBA players.
His career has included leadership across private investment, deal structuring, and high-growth strategy. Sherman began in investment banking before spending a decade at Deloitte as a management consultant, advising the firm’s largest clients on M&A, complex restructuring, valuation, and litigation matters across financial services, technology, and sports and media. It is that combination of forensic discipline and deal-making experience that shapes how he reads the sports investment landscape today.
Sherman pairs institutional rigor with an operator’s instinct for where durable value is built. While years of communicating complex deal structures to investors, executives, athletes, and institutions sharpened his ability to make complexity legible, it is his depth of experience in sports investment leadership that uniquely positions him to interpret the industry’s transformation for Family Office Networks readers.
As sports undergoes one of the greatest transformations in its history — driven by private capital, technology, globalization, and new ownership models — family offices need informed, practical analysis that goes beyond the headlines. Sports has quietly become a genuine institutional asset class, yet it remains one of the least understood sectors among many investors. My goal is to help Family Office Networks readers separate meaningful long-term trends from short-term noise and better understand where enduring investment opportunities may emerge.
— Matt Sherman, Sports Editor, FON Media
Sherman’s regular columns will examine not only investment trends but also the broader structural changes affecting sports markets, including private equity and franchise ownership, sports technology, media and streaming rights, athlete equity, emerging-markets expansion, regulatory developments, and the long-term implications for private capital.
Andrew Schneider, Founder of Family Office Networks, welcomed the appointment.
Matt brings an exceptional combination of knowledge sitting at the intersection of sports and technology, and the investment perspective and strategy on how to approach this industry. Sports is becoming increasingly important to family office portfolios. It is difficult to ignore the $2 trillion+ industry that just set a record year in volume of sports team acquisitions. Matt will provide tremendous value to our members and readers.
— Andrew Schneider, Founder, Family Office Networks
